Palm oil is cheap, it keeps well, and it is easy to hide inside a sweet. That's why it turns up in a lot of cheaper mithai and snacks. At Loknath Sweets it has never been in our kitchen. Every sweet we make, from Dhodha Burfi to the laddoos on your puja thaal, is cooked in pure desi ghee, the same way it was in 1952.
Why desi ghee matters
Desi ghee gives mithai its aroma, its richness and the way it melts on the tongue. Cheaper fats can copy the texture, but not the taste, and you can tell the difference by the second bite.
Why our mithai costs a little more
Pure desi ghee costs several times more than palm oil. We could lower our prices by switching. We won't. For more than seven decades, families in Ghaziabad have trusted us to make their festival sweets the honest way, and that trust matters more to us than a cheaper price tag.
Questions worth asking before you buy
- Which fat is this cooked in: desi ghee, vanaspati or palm oil?
- When was this batch made?
- Can I see the full menu before I order?
Any good sweet shop will be happy to answer all three. We are.
